Christmas Mine operates 3 km away, producing 362.9 million pounds of copper, 55,000 ounces of gold, and 2.15 million ounces of silver from 25.8 million tons of ore

Kennecott and Phelps Dodge launch modern exploration. Detailed mapping identifies Laramide-age (55–75 Ma) NE-trending dyke swarms and hydrothermal breccias with up to 5.7% Cu at surface

Drilling intersects copper-zinc skarn mineralization at depths up to 1,129 m — extraordinary for the era

Early 1980s

Copper price crash; project shelved. Mid-1980s: Kennecott sold to Rio Tinto. Original core destroyed, but a Walnut Mines partner examined it before disposal and confirmed extensive skarn mineralization in the Paleozoic carbonates

Modern Validation

2023 Geophysics Confirms
a Deep Target

A property-wide ZTEM (Z-axis Tipper Electromagnetic) survey completed in 2023 mapped a major resistivity anomaly at depth — directly beneath the surface mineralization and the historical drill intercepts. The geophysical signature matches the well-understood Christmas Mine deposit three kilometres away.

The Analogues

Same Architecture as Christmas Mine and Resolution Copper

Hot Breccia's geological setting — a Cretaceous porphyry stock intruding Paleozoic carbonates, with dyke swarms carrying skarn xenoliths — mirrors the architecture of two of Arizona's most important copper systems.
